Dr Maria Sharmina will join Policy@Manchester as the Co-Director for Science and Engineering
4 October 2022
Policy@Manchester connects researchers with policymakers and influencers, nurtures long-term policy engagement relationships, and seeks to enhance stakeholder understanding of pressing policy challenges.
Policy@Manchester is the University's sector-leading policy engagement institute.
It operates as a University-wide platform, reporting to the Vice-President for Research, and makes a key contribution to our research impact strategy through its focus on influencing public policy. It enables our staff to develop their impact and to share ideas with each other and the external policy community, with the aim of creating impact through new synergies, knowledge and partnerships. In turn this frequently generates new follow-on research. Since its inception in 2009 Policy@Manchester has secured significant success in its activities and demonstrated its sector leading position within the HE community. This includes its thought leadership publications, such as the recent Energy Futures, Air Quality, and Net Zero and policy-related blogs and events involving researchers from across all three faculties.
Maria brings experience of working with policy makers, particularly across Government Departments. Her research on low-carbon energy and circular economy involves interdisciplinary approaches to complex policy problems, and aims to provide a conduit between academics and policymakers.
