Tyndall Manchester at Glastonbury
26 September 2024
Tyndall Manchester researchers drew an engaged crowd at Glastonbury 2024, despite a lot of competition!
Alice Larkin and Kevin Anderson from Tyndall Manchester spoke at several sessions in the Speakers Forum during the Glastonbury Festival at the end of June. Alice's talk on Thursday, where she discussed the challenges and opportunities around cutting greenhouse gases from aviation and shipping, drew a surprisingly large and engaged audience, perhaps because its slot landed ahead of the high-profile bands starting in the evening that day! Later in the weekend, Kevin Anderson was joined by Richard Betts from the Met Office, as well as Roger Harrabin, to talk about the media and climate science. He also talked on a panel about the problems with net zero 2050 climate targets. Then on the last day, Alice and Kevin shared the stage to talk about whether climate experts are part of the climate problem.
With an audience induding stakeholders, new connections were made, including with an expert in hydrogen for aviation and a psychologist focused on climate action.
