New article published on how energy access can accelerate sustainable development goals

26 September 2024

Tyndall Manchester researchers led a collaborative research reviewing and critically analysing impacts of energy access projects in delivering sustainable development.

Their new paper, published on Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, draws lessons from eight countries across Africa (Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, South Africa), Asia (Myanmar and the Philippines), and Latin America (Colombia and Chile) to offer evidence on the 'realities' of renewable energy access projects in the Global South and propose lessons for policy, research, and development practice.

Important Outcomes: To advance SDGs, it recommends action in four areas: addressing rural-urban disparities, ensuring that energy is linked to sustainable outcomes, balancing top-down and bottom-up agendas, and appraising implications of techno-economic factors.
